before i forget again: uta barth

i first saw uta barth's work at the Met Museum's inaugural photography exhibition in the new gallery space the museum has dedicated to the medium from c.1960 - present. i remembered the beautiful work included as part of the rather strange group show - a distorted, fuzzy background with a sharp bright red fence post to the far right of the frame - for a long time afterward. i promptly forgot barth's name (the reason for this blog is my failing memory) then remembered while reading jim johnson's excellent blog on politics, theory and photography today where he namechecks barth as a recent Broad Fellow alongside Allan Sekula. so, before i forget again, i decided to archive some of her images here:

art history's full of bears

mark wallinger won the turner prize this year with State Britain yet it was another piece that was exhibited in the end - 'Sleeper'. tate has a semi-interesting video clip of wallinger explaining the process behind this particular work ('one thing led to another and here i am dressed as a bear....in this empty building').

better though is this dubbed version which has wallinger's bear-man wandering the gallery floor musing in a squeaky voice and growling to himself. i am a bear indeed.

old articles i have emailed myself this year

cleaning out my yahoo account, i happened upon these (there may be others to follow) and i thought i would post them rather than forget i once sent them to myself a few months back.
